When you’ve retired and/or have sadly passed away, it would be good to know that you have created something enduring that can be shared with others. And even better if it can have a positive and lasting impact on individuals and perhaps the world in general.

Some people never get to leave something good behind, whilst others are too busy to think about what they could do. Fresh from an incredible BNI conference at the weekend, I have decided that today – not tomorrow – is the perfect moment to start building the legacy which I’ve always envisioned.

For some time now I have been thinking about my legacy. It needs to be something that accurately reflects my values, beliefs, influence, the relationships I have cultivated and the contributions I have made. Essentially, I want to leave something behind that not only outlives me, but is also destined to leave a positive mark on the world.

Legacy focus 1 – delivering rewarding recruitment

Those people who have met me know that one of my main focuses is to empower and support communities through meaningful connections and lasting change. I firmly believe that someone’s circumstances should not prevent them from creating the future they deserve.

Over the last year I have been heavily involved in my passion project – No More Tears. This recruitment programme is dedicated to providing a lifeline for individuals affected by domestic abuse; it’s about giving them independence, confidence and a brighter future as I, along with other charity partner organisations and potential employers, help and support survivors of domestic abuse to rebuild their lives through meaningful employment opportunities.

Whilst take up across domestic abuse charities has been ok, I am still looking to engage with many more across the UK. By working together we can make a difference and help to rebuild lives and that is something that everyone involved can be proud of.

Legacy focus 2 – networking with a difference

In addition, in the coming months I will launch a brand new BNI chapter in Daventry. This new chapter will provide the right environment, training and support to exchange leads, share ideas, learn, collaborate and build trusted relationships.

I have been a member of BNI for many years and it’s been a game-changer for me – not just for my business, but as an HR professional and a person. Being part of BNI has given me a platform to build a trusted circle of professionals who genuinely champion each other, support growth and help you to open doors which I never even knew existed.

Transforming lives

Both of these parts of my legacy come down to one thing. I’m passionate about people. There’s nothing I like better than listening and talking to people so I can find out how I can either help them personally, or put them in touch with someone else who can. I also believe in supporting people who may be struggling, or need to overcome specific challenges, so they can be their absolute best, both in their personal or business lives.

So my question to you is what do you want to do differently and/or achieve? Because tomorrow starts today. If you’re in or around Daventry, have a large network and are firstly interested in being part of a dynamic local networking group and secondly want to be part of something transformative – something that truly matters – then let’s connect. Together, we can leverage the lessons learnt, inspire one another, and build a thriving community rooted in support and growth. It’s time to step forward boldly. My legacy begins today—who’s joining me?
