Have you ever been tempted to do something completely outside your comfort zone? Is there one thing you keep thinking about, but never quite get around to taking action, maybe because it feels too big, too risky, or is just too far removed from what you know?

That’s the feeling I’ve been experiencing for a few years, which is one of the reasons why I decided that 2025 was the year I needed to step up and tackle it head on. Because my something was writing a book and the more observant amongst you, might already have picked up on my socials about the progress of my new book, but this blog is to tell you more about it.

No More Tears

You read that correctly, I have recently written a book called No More Tears which I hope to publish before Christmas, or at the very latest in January. The book is based on fact – my fact, but told in a fictional way. It tackles domestic abuse, living with a stoma and the traumas of single parenting.

When traumatic life events happen, they can all too easily engulf us in chaos and uncertainty and one of our coping mechanisms is to shut down and withdraw into ourselves. We certainly don’t want to discuss openly what has been happening as the fear of reliving it, being judged, or worse still people feeling sorry for us can be overwhelming.

Trauma, if we let it, can take a heavy toll on our emotional and mental health. And even when we physically emerged from the life events that caused it, they can continue to haunt us.

Growth and healing

What started as a personal challenge became a powerful journey of growth and healing. Writing was cathartic — it forced me to confront difficult experiences that I’d buried for years. I found it very therapeutic. Learning to write about trauma helped me to process painful experiences, and gave me some new skills to overcome them. And whilst I was able to acknowledge that those traumatic episodes in past had shaped me, I realised through my life writing that they had also been quietly holding me back from living my best life.

Resilience

The book isn’t just about raising awareness or sharing lived experiences, it’s about showing resilience. It’s proof that you can overcome anything life throws at you, but you have to want to. When you decide you’re ready to face it, you’ll be amazed at the strength you already have inside you.

I really hope that when it’s published you will buy a copy. Not only to find out about my journey, but because a % of sales monies received will go to two charities EVE- Domestic Abuse and Camelion Buddies – Stoma supplies.

Look ahead with hope

Also at the back of the book are details about my “No More Tears” programme which I set up to help survivors of domestic abuse rebuild their lives with strength, confidence, and independence. The programme supports women ready to take that next brave step, helping them relocate safely, rebuild stability, and reconnect with meaningful employment. We believe every woman deserves not just to survive, but to thrive, to look ahead with hope and take back control of her future.

If you’ve ever thought about writing a book, sharing your story, or using your voice to make an impact, take this as your sign to start. It’s not as scary as you might think, and it might just change your life in ways you never expected.

I wrote my book myself, but if you’d like some help getting started, I know a brilliant ghost writer who can support you through the process. Get in touch – debby@total-spectrum.com if you would like an introduction. And finally remember, sometimes the hardest step is just saying yes to yourself.
